Wedding Wine and Champagne Calculator
Work out in a few clicks how many bottles you need for your cocktail hour, dinner and evening party — the same method our sommeliers use during private tastings. Planning a destination wedding in Provence, on the French Riviera or in Paris? These are exactly the quantities we deliver to venues across France.
Estimate your quantities in 30 seconds
Indicative estimate based on our sommeliers' recommendations: 1 bottle for every 2–3 guests during the cocktail hour, 1 bottle of red for 3 guests and 1 white for 4 at dinner, 1 for 6 with dessert. The length of your reception adjusts the cocktail hour and the late-night top-up. Our wines and champagnes are sold in cases of 6 bottles, so every quantity is rounded up to the next full case. Beer is not counted in wine bottles. Every wedding is unique: fine-tune these quantities with a sommelier.
How many bottles for your wedding? Quick reference table
Prefer a quick benchmark before using the calculator? Here are the quantities we recommend most often for a classic wedding: champagne during the cocktail hour, two-thirds red and one-third white with dinner, a few bubbles with dessert and a late-night top-up. Quantities are rounded up to full cases of 6 bottles, exactly as we deliver them.
| Adult guests | Champagne (cocktail hour) | Red wine (dinner) | White wine (dinner) | Dessert | Late-night bonus | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 guests | 18 | 12 | 6 | 12 | 6 | 54 btl (9 cases) |
| 80 guests | 30 | 18 | 12 | 18 | 12 | 90 btl (15 cases) |
| 100 guests | 36 | 24 | 12 | 18 | 12 | 102 btl (17 cases) |
| 120 guests | 42 | 30 | 12 | 24 | 12 | 120 btl (20 cases) |
| 150 guests | 54 | 36 | 18 | 30 | 18 | 156 btl (26 cases) |
| 200 guests | 72 | 48 | 18 | 36 | 24 | 198 btl (33 cases) |
Count only adult guests who drink alcohol: leave out children, mums-to-be and non-drinkers. At a 120-guest wedding that is often 15 to 20 fewer people — and just as many bottles saved.
Your questions about wedding wine quantities
How many bottles of wine for 100 guests?
For the dinner of a 100-adult wedding, plan on about 36 bottles of still wine: 24 red and 12 white if you serve both colours. If you serve a single colour, count 1 bottle for every 3 guests — 34 bottles, rounded up to 36. The cocktail hour and dessert come on top, and those usually call for bubbles.
How much champagne for 100 people?
Plan on 36 bottles for a cocktail hour where champagne is the only alcoholic drink — about 2 glasses per person. If your guests are a young, festive crowd, go up to 1 bottle for 2, i.e. 50 bottles. If you also serve beer or cocktails, you can come down to 1 bottle for 3.
How much wine for the cocktail hour?
Our base rule: 1 bottle for every 2 to 3 guests, depending on your crowd and how long the reception lasts. It is the moment of the day when people drink the most — often more than at dinner. If you serve several drinks (champagne, crémant, rosé, beer), split that total between them rather than adding a full quantity per drink.
How much wine per person for a wedding?
Across the whole day, allow roughly one bottle per adult guest, all types included. It sounds like a lot, but it covers the cocktail hour, dinner, dessert and the party — and a 75 cl bottle only holds 6 glasses.
How many bottles for 50 guests?
Around 54 bottles in total: 18 champagne for the cocktail hour, 12 red and 6 white with dinner, 12 with dessert and 6 for the late-night top-up. That makes 9 cases.
Should I add a safety margin?
Our quantities are already rounded up to the next full case, which is a natural buffer. We advise against adding another 15% on top: you would end up with whole unopened cases. Better to order accurately: that is exactly what this calculator and our sommeliers are here for.
What about water and soft drinks?
Allow 1 litre of water per person across the day, half of it sparkling, and 1 litre of soft drinks for every 3 guests. Designated drivers and children often make up a quarter of the room: it is the item everyone underestimates.
When should I order?
Ideally 2 to 3 months before the wedding, once your caterer's menu is set. The menu drives the pairings, the pairings drive the wines, and the wines drive the split between colours. Before that, the table above is plenty to build your budget.
